This artisan hydrosol is handcrafted in small batches right here on the Big Island of Hawai'i with Comfrey that is grown organically right here in the garden at Miracle Botanicals!
The Comfrey plant has been known for its medicinal and healing properties for centuries, and is one of the most widely used medicinal plants in herbalism. It's recorded use dates back to the Middle Ages, when it became a ubiquitous addition to home gardens. The Materia Medica praised its ability to repair tissues and broken bones. In fact, Comfrey is also known as Knitbone or Bone Set, and a poultice of the blanched leaves can be applied to broken bones, bruises, sprains, and other injuries. The botanical name for this plant, Symphytum Officinale, roughly translates as "to cause to grow together".
As a hydrosol, Comfrey is very hydrating and delivers micronutrients to cellular tissues, penetrating into the deeper layers of our skin. The plant contains a component called allantoin, which promotes rapid re-growth of cells. This chemical is widely used in the cosmetic industry. This hydrosol is commonly used to soothe wounds and infections, reduce scarring, moisturize the skin, bring balance to acne-prone skin, soothe muscles and joints, and more.
The medicine of this plant is also associated with feelings of peace and reassurance. Comfrey is comforting to the entire system.
In addition, this hydrosol has been artisinally alchemized in a copper alembic still. Copper has been used for its healing properties by many different cultures, including the ancient Mesopotamians, Indians, and Egyptians. Copper is known to naturally neutralize toxins, ionize and balance water (due in part to its pH). In ayurvedic teachings, copperized water is also used to naturally balance the body's three doshas.
